Install Bitdefender on Windows 11 – step by step
Install Bitdefender Total Security cleanly on Windows 11 in 10 minutes: remove old protection, create an account, license, run the first scan.
This guide walks you through installing Bitdefender Total Security on a Windows 11 PC. Allow about 10 minutes.
Prerequisites: license key or active Bitdefender subscription, stable internet connection, admin rights on the PC.
Steps
- 1 Remove any existing antivirus Open Settings → Apps → Installed Apps. Find other antivirus solutions (McAfee, Norton, ESET) and uninstall them. Microsoft Defender disables itself automatically once Bitdefender is active.
- 2 Create a Bitdefender account Open central.bitdefender.com and create an account with email and a strong password. Enable 2FA in the account settings.
- 3 Download the installer In the Bitdefender Central dashboard, click "Devices" → "Install on devices". Choose "This PC" → "Windows" and download the installer (~10 MB).
- 4 Run the installation Double-click the installer, accept the UAC prompt. Bitdefender downloads the full version (~250 MB) and installs it. Takes about 5–7 minutes.
- 5 Initial configuration After launch the protection-shield dialog appears: enable real-time protection, web protection, and anti-tracking. Leave ransomware protection and firewall on "Automatic".
- 6 Run the first full scan Click "Protection" → "Antivirus" → "Full System Scan". The first scan takes 20–60 minutes depending on data volume. You can keep working normally while it runs.
