How we test

How we test and rate

Every product on antivirus-vergleich.ch is evaluated against the same six criteria. This page explains where the data comes from, how we weight it, and how often we refresh — so our recommendations are traceable.

The six rating criteria

We rate every product on a 0–10 scale across protection, performance / system load, usability, value for money, feature scope, and support. The headline score is the average of those six values.

External sources

Protection and performance scores draw on the independent lab tests by AV-Test (Magdeburg) and AV-Comparatives (Innsbruck). For threat landscape in Switzerland we consult the publications of the NCSC. Features and platform coverage come from official vendor documentation.

How the finder weights inputs

Our Antivirus Finder weights your inputs transparently: platform match +18, profile match +10, each requested feature +6 (missing −3), matching device count +6, budget match based on price tier. On top, the priority criterion you select is amplified ×1.75. The top 3 recommendations are produced purely from this formula — no sponsorships, no preferences.

Update cycles

Prices and renewal costs are reviewed at least monthly. Test scores are refreshed after every new AV-Test or AV-Comparatives report (typically quarterly). Feature lists are updated at major vendor releases. Every product and guide page carries a visible "reviewed on" date.

What we don't do

We don't accept paid placements. There are no sponsored top picks, no pay-to-rank slots. Affiliate commissions only flow after a ranking has been generated against this methodology. Vendors without an affiliate program (e.g. Microsoft Defender, Mullvad) are treated identically.

Correction policy

If we spot an error or you point one out, we correct it openly and timestamp the change. Correction notices stay visible in the content.
