TLS / HTTPS

Encryption protocol for secure internet connections – visible as the padlock and "https://" in the browser.

TLS (Transport Layer Security) is the encryption protocol for secure internet connections. HTTPS is HTTP over TLS. In the browser, look for the padlock icon and "https://" in the address bar.

Heads-up: HTTPS only means the connection is encrypted – not that the website is trustworthy. Phishing sites today almost always have a valid TLS certificate too.
